World Card Making Day 2014

I had zero plans to make cards this weekend, but realized I needed one for my friends birthday we were seeing tonight.

Having not created a card in who knows how long, I quickly turned to Pinterest for inspiration.   Found this card and decided to duplicate it.

I dry embossed, stitched, heat embossed and stamped on this. I forgot how fun it all was!!

So happy with how it came out. I need to get back to making cards again.

Scrap Cards

After going on a scrapping bender, I found myself with some scraps laying on my desk.  I was tired of shuffling them around my desk and realized I had enough to make a few cards.

As much as I don't consider myself a "card maker", these just come in handy.  I've noticed people appreciating the cards I've made too. Makes it all worth it.

These two cards look so much better IRL, but I could not make them look the same on the computer.

I'm sure if I wanted to I could make another ton of cards from all the scraps I have but I run in spurts.  I'll get there. ;)

Butterfly Card

This card came together when I was playing with the Daydream Believer kit from Studio Calico.  I had put these butterflies aside to giveaway since they're not really "me", but then realized they would make a great card!  I think I can officially call that kit "done"!

I stamped a simple "Happy Birthday" on a cardstock strip and pop dotted the wings on the butterflies.

The colors are prettier IRL, but they play off each other nicely.  Perfect card for a birthday!

Scrap Cards 2.0

After making THESE LO's I had a lot of pieces left over that I hated to toss out. Since I can never have enough birthday cards I decided to give these a try. I actually like how they came out too!

The longest part to making these was the heat embossing but even that didn't take long at all.I had scraps of these colors the most so kept this to just those colors. Thought it was more "manly"....

This is probably my least favorite card from the bunch, but I still like it. And it reminds me of corn. Totally random thought there....

I've got some exciting news that I can't wait to share! I don't want to jinx it so I'm waiting....but if it happens I'll be able to share tomorrow! It's something sorta scrappy related that I've been wanting for a long, long time! ;) Wish me luck!!!

Scrap Cards

Scraps.
Not patterned paper scraps.
I'm talking cardstock.

No matter how often I use them I seem to aquire more & more & MoRe!! This time the pile was crazy! I try to keep nothing smaller than 3x3 (usually). I figure if I can get a punch out of it it's a keeper, which is probably part of my problem....

I keep all my scraps in an accordian file & sort them by color. Easy peasy. Nothing fancy.

I've noticed pennants or flags a lot lately. Whether it's on Pinterest or a scrappy magazine, pennants are everywhere! So I'm not entirely sure where I got this idea but the best part of it was using so much of my cardstock scraps.

I took out my white embossing powder, & a stamp & got to work. I used "Happy Birthday" since that's usually the sort of card I need. Depending on the size of the paper I'd stamp it as many times as I could fit Happy Birthday & still leave room to trim them at the ends. Then arrange them on a card & it's DONE! Super simple.

Since Joe's birthday was last weekend, I told the girls to pick a card to give to him & out of a stack of cards they both chose these cards. Since then, I've been mass producing these cards to have on hand....AND use up my scraps!! ;)

Girlie Cards

Awhile ago when I made THIS birthday calendar, I ended up with some scraps that I hated to toss out. I kept them until one day I realized I could use them for some mini cards. I also wanted to play with this stamp that I've had for awhile.

Nothing super fancy, but they'll do in a pinch. I colored them in with pencils, haven't done that in a long time either. I haven't given into Copic markers, only because I don't stamp a lot. Which is very strange considering how many stamps I own. Go figure.

The colors look better IRL. I think it was overcast when I was taking these pics. The pink & green in the paper is actually very pretty.

This is probably my favorite. Might be because of the purple & green combo, or the stickles, not really sure why. ;)

I made a few more cards without the girls, simply because my coloring wasn't coming out nice so I just stamped a quick "Happy Birthday" on them & called it done! And no, I'm not sharing those.... ;) LOL!

Quick Cards vs.3

Once again I was playing with my scraps. I guess you can say I'm on a mission to use them up. I'm pretty sure this idea came from Susan Opel, on Facebook. (Sorry couldn't find a link)

The idea is simple. Take various pieces of pattern paper, in assorted colors that go well together. Cut them in various size strips & adhere. Add some sort of embellie & sentiment & you're DONE!

For me the bonus was using up some embellies that were just sitting in my stash. The colors look so much better IRL. It was a cruddy day when I took these pics & I had trouble with the glare. :(

I modified the balloon on this embellie with a punched circle to cover the original balloon color & added a button.

I do have a few more cards (& LO's) that I've done, & will be posting. Eventually I'd like to tackle my cardstock scraps & found an idea on Pinterest that I'm going to try! YAY for Pinterest!!

Quick Cards vs.2

The other week while watching TV, I felt the urge to multi-task. Since I was on a card kick, after making THESE, I pulled out my pattern paper scraps again. I decided to keep it simple since I didn't feel like carrying a lot of supplies with me to the family room where I was watching TV. I grabbed 1 punch, adhesive & cards.

I went through my scraps & punched out as many circles as I could out of each paper. Then I laid out a rainbow of circles & stuck them on.

Nothing fancy.

I really purged a lot of papers doing this. So, of course, I ended up making a bunch of cards! The next day I stamped on the "Happy Birthday" & called them done!

Now that my pattern paper scraps are in order, I have to tackle my cardstock scraps....should be interesting!

Quick Cards vs.1

Back in September, I was in need of some birthday cards when I realized I was very low. We were actually on our way to a party when I noticed. Since I was waiting on Joe (shocking-it hardly ever happens), I sat down & made a few of these cards really quick. I remember seeing something by Susan Opel on Facebook, I think, about using scraps....not exactly sure but I think I've seen something like this before & gave it a try.

Since I was more in need of a card for a guy I went with these colors. I used a variety of circle punches & the plainer papers I used an embossing folder to give it some "oomph". I just randomly stuck down the circles until it looked ok to me. Then I stamped the corner & called it done.Since it was so easy to make I made a few more with the same colors.Later when I had some time, I then made more. I found these colors in my scrap stash & punched these. Did everything the same...Including making a few extra....Once again I was on a roll & pulled these paper scraps as well...I also switched it up a little using a different stamp...I'm crazy like that. ;) LOL!!

Seriously, these were so quick to make that it was sad to not make more. The best part was it used up a bunch of patterned paper SCRAPS hanging in my stash waiting to be used (that I probably wouldn't have used otherwise--let's be honest). It was a win-win all around!

Birthday Cards 2.0

After making Joe's birthday cards, I had plenty more papers to make a few more so I went for it. I really hate to put the supplies away when it's easier to make more. KWIM? Besides I can always use more bday cards.....which I'm sure I'll be getting a few of my own today....ummmm...it's my birthday. Just don't ask how old I'm turning since I have to seriously stop & think about it. I keep saying 38 when it's actually 37...why I'm skipping a year to be OLDER is beyond me! And now that I typed that I REALLY don't like either number!!

Moving on.......

I kept to the same designs for a few of them.
This one looks much better IRL. The green is minty & the dimensional sticker is lavendar.

I have so many of these dimensional stickers & really don't use them as often as I should, but I can't seem to stop buying them. I used up a whole pack on these cards. YAY!

Again these colors are much better IRL...

Cookie Thank You Tags

For Gianna's Girl Scout Cookies I came up with a simple tag to add to the bag of cookies people bought from her.

Nothing fancy. Just simple.

The tags are 3x3. I took this stamp for the flower & stamped it on plain cardstock. Used this stamp for the "thank you" & used it on old paper. Then punched holes on the corners. Gianna finished it off with her signature.

In case you're wondering, the flower is supposed to represent Gianna's "Daisy" troop. Got it? Couldn't pass it up. ;)

Birthday Cards

Lately my brain has been fried. I keep thinking I have stuff or that I bought certain things already but then when the time comes that I need them I realize I never bought them.

**SIGH**
That's my life lately.

Of course this happened with Joe's birthday as well. I thought I had birthday cards all made up & ready to go but I didn't. So Friday night I stayed up til 2am trying to come up with a few cards for him.

This was the first one....it's eh...my brain was feeling pretty frazzled. I think the block had something to do with using older scraps that weren't inspiring.

Then I pulled out this blue paper & this card just came together effortlessly. I think it was my favorite.

The colors of this one don't do it justice. They're much bolder IRL. Used some older stickers that I've hoarded. It's sick how many of those dimensional themed stickers I have!! I think they will be finding homes on cards in the near future.

Regardless of my feelings about the cards, Joe loved them! Either that or he hates to see how much those Hallmark cards are! ;)

Happy Love Day!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Made this card for Joe & he loved it! He told me that he takes the cards I make around with him. Come on say it with me...Aawwwww!! Yeah he knows how to melt me! ;)

Hope you have a great day full of love!!

ETA: Was inspired to make this card from THIS BLOG. I knew right away that I was going to lift it. ;)

Thanksgiving Placecards

Last year I was messing around with some paper scraps & decided (don't remember exactly why) to make place cards for Thanksgiving. (Sorry for the cruddy pics but if I wait until tomorrow to re-take these it might be NEXT Thanksgiving before I get to share these! LOL!)
Now, I am by no means a "formal" person. Meaning we don't use our "Formal Dining Room", unless it's a Holiday. Usually our dining room gets used for parties & Holidays. That's it. The rest of the time it's a "drop" room, things that don't have a permanent spot get "dropped" in the dining room.

I host Thanksgiving every year, usually it's between 11-13 people that gather here. It's not a lot but it's enough. There's lots to do before, during & after so that's why I'm sharing these now instead of last year....ummm besides the fact that I didn't finish them in time to use last year! ;)
There's nothing fancy about these either. Literally just used scraps that I had building up in my stash. Used THIS circle punch & THIS scallop punch for the base. This QK die & stickles for the eyes. For the names, I printed them on cardstock then stamped the border with this stamp set & punched it out with THIS punch. Secured them with a couple of brads et voila!! Place Cards!!

Made by Marissa

So the other morning I was watching a how-to video by Nichol when Marissa stumbled in & started watching with me. She was really getting into too so I asked her if she wanted to make a card & she jumped at the chance!

I pointed out some stamps & cleared off some room for her & let her at it. She's really into owls too (Thank you Harry Potter), so when she spotted these stamps & saw it had a birthday message she went for it. Her BFF Ariel is having her b-day party this week so she decided it would be perfect for her.

I gave her just a few pointers, but otherwise she made this herself. She's really proud of herself too....and so am I! ;)

Birthday Card Set

Awhile back I saw these cards on Nichol's blog & was quickly enabled (not that it takes much!!!). I ordered the stamp set from Stampin' Up & then somehow they got put away & forgotten about.

Recently I came across them again & made a point to make the cards. The papers are from MM Spring Fling & I made the cards approx 4x4. Just something to have handy when I need a quick card.

Then since I stamped a few extra flower centers I threw them on this card & called it done. Nothing crazy fancy but it works.

Rainbows & Butterflies

You ever see something that you have to lift right away because you love it that much? This card was on the cover of the May/June PaperCrafts Magazine & my eye kept going to it until I broke down & made a few versions....because I can't make just one!! ;)

I tried changing it up a bit by using the Cuttlebug Swiss Dots on the background....
then I went for the cleaner look....which I have to say I like better.

Then I thought why not flip it? And just for the record the ric rac is straight IRL. ;)
All the papers on these are the Jillibean Soup Staples since I have a thing for polka dots.

And speaking of Jillibean Soup...my work was on their blog today!! I can't tell you how excited I was to hear about it this morning from Laura, who also prompted me to submit it. Thank you Laura for the push!

A few cards...

So back at the beginning of the month when I was making a birthday card for Laura, I decided to make a few more since I never have birthday cards when I need them.

I also wanted to try out this Jillibean stamp so I pulled out some Jillibean Soup Soup Staples papers & went at it. I stamped the pennant on each color of paper then trimmed out the triangle & stuck it to another banner stamped on white paper. Then attached it with some pop dots to more Soup Staples & added the "b-day" using the corrugated alphas--love those!
This one came together pretty quick. Used some things I had laying on my desk actually. I inked the pink diecut, pop dotted the circle then just added the cupcake sticker (got that at Michael's--Martha Stewart there's a lot in the package, going to be stocking up on them--so cute!!), then stamped the Happy Birthday with a Hero Arts set & embossed it with some ZING.

I had to play with this stickers some more--so I made this super simple card. My only problem was the embossing with the Zing powder sticking but I'm rolling with it & calling them "sprinkles". LOL!!
